Two simple cleaning hacks for a sparkling car

Want a clean and mean car exterior, with minimal effort?

According to Mat Watson, Chief Content Officer at CarWow, if you prioritise just two simple cleaning practices, you can keep your car looking like a million bucks 24/7.

So let’s get straight to it. 

1. Car washing

“Regular washing and the application of a good-quality car wax will do more to maintain a car’s looks than almost anything else,” says Mat.

Washing the exterior is the most important part of any car cleaning process. You only need a few tools to get the job done: A sponge, car wash soap, a bucket, a cloth, and water. And if you know what you’re doing, it can take you as little as 30 minutes.

Start off by spraying your car down with a hose. Then soap it up, starting at the top of the car and working your way down. Rinse the car as you go to remove the soap, and finish off by wiping the area with a cloth to prevent streaks. Easy, right?

2. Car waxing 

After washing, Mat recommends applying wax. He said: “Car wax is really good at protecting bodywork from road salt, as well as general dirt and grime, and will help your car shrug off as much winter grot as possible.”

To wax your car, first apply a small amount of wax to the pad. Your tub should come with one inside. Choose a section of your vehicle to start with, and move the pad in a small, circular motion. Continue with the rest of the vehicle until it is coated in a thin layer of wax. Then once the wax is dry and chalky, rub it off with a soft cloth. 

For a superior finish, you’ll want to clean the interior too. Vacuuming mats and upholstery regularly, will clear away grime and prevent unwanted odours.

“Sprinkling a bit of baking soda over carpets and letting it sit for a couple of hours before vacuuming can help give an extra boost when trying to eliminate smells,” said the car expert.
