April and May are great months. The weather’s finally improving, the days are getting longer and, most importantly, we get four bank holidays. That only means one thing… it’s time for a family road trip!
Whatever your family fancy doing, there’s a destination somewhere in the UK for you. So, here are some top ideas for a great family road trip this Easter.
An amusement park in Wales
Wales is full of stunning places to visit, from the sloping hills of Snowdonia, to the seaside spot at Mumbles. But, if these serene locations don’t take your fancy, there’s a brilliant amusement park in Pembrokeshire, south west Wales.
Oakwood Theme Park is a great day out for the family, with the UK’s number one wooden rollercoaster, a ride with the UK’s biggest tidal wave (45 foot) and the UK’s tallest Sky Swing. That’s a lot of ‘the best in the UKs’ right there.
Oh, and the park is easy to get to by road, which makes things even better. A perfect mid-road trip stop.
With special events taking place over the Easter bank holiday, this is a perfect destination for a family looking for a bit of adrenaline.
A vintage festival in Kent
If rides, waves and wooden rollercoasters aren’t for you (which we completely understand after looking at the words ‘wooden rollercoaster’ again), how about a trip back in time to Kent?
On 16th – 17th April, the Festival of Steam and Transport takes place at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham. Stop off during a road trip through the Garden of England and you’ll get to enjoy live music, vintage cars and trains, a steampunk village, as well as incredible food and drink. If you fancy it, you can even go on a tour of the locations used in the TV series Call The Midwife.
If you think the show sounds good, but still like the look of the theme park from before, don’t panic! There’s a free funfair the family can enjoy as well.
Glamping in Scotland
Normally combining words is just horrible (we’re looking at you chillax, staycation and Jedward). But with glamping… we’ll allow it.
Take the family on a road trip to up to Scotland to enjoy a camping break like no other. Glamping gets rid of all the unglamorous parts of regular camping, and leaves you with stunning views and a lot of family fun. You even get the benefit of staying in warm, cosy pods instead of tents, which means your family can enjoy the bank holiday weekend, whatever the weather.
And while you’re at it, explore Scotland by car. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better place to drive in the UK. So while the rest of the family enjoy their pods, you can enjoy the roads.
Take a look at the Aviemore Glamping website for more information.
Drive to the donkeys in Devon
Often, the highlight of a road trip is the scenery you drive through. Head down to Devon for a road trip this Easter, and you’ll get to enjoy some of the finest scenery and surroundings the UK has to offer.
Keep the family happy by stopping off at The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth. This registered charity works to protect donkeys around the world, and welcomes visitors with open arms, for free! It’s even free parking.
Head to the Donkey Sanctuary’s website to learn more.
So, there you have it, some great destinations wherever your family road trip takes you.
