There are plenty of romantic road trips to enjoy whether you’re a young motorist in the first flush of love or a time-weathered Romeo. Here are three of the best to enjoy this Valentine’s day…
North Coast 500
This is Scotland’s answer to Route 66 in the US, but far more romantic. The 516-mile route traces Scotland’s exhilarating north-east coast.
It begins and ends at Inverness Castle and takes in Ullapool, Thurso, John O’Groats and Dunrobin Castle.
Arriving at the north-west Scottish village of Durness is like arriving at the top of the world.
Fairytale trip
This 220-mile stretch of road in Germany takes in quaint towns, Bavarian beer palaces and enchanting fairytale castles, such as the stunning Neuschwanstein and Burg Harburg.
You can take your pick from two types of tour – either four days or the more leisurely seven-day road trip.
Cotswolds romantic road
At 45 miles long, this route is a much shorter trip than the other two, but no less romantic. There are also plenty of other lovely stretches of road in the surrounding area.
But this route takes in the tender delights of the picturesque market town of Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water, nicknamed the Cotswolds’ Little Venice.
