6 of the wackiest cars ever made

Reliant Regal 1967

This iconic three-wheeled model, made famous by Only Fools and Horses, may not be the wackiest car on this list, but it’s definitely the most recognisable.

The strangest thing about this car is that, due to its three wheels and light weight, it’s actually considered a ‘tricycle’ under UK law. That means you can drive one with only a full motorcycle licence.

Ioniq 5 2023

First released in 2021, the latest iteration of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 includes several upgrades, including an interesting modification to the wheels.

The 2023 model of the Ioniq 5 has the ability to turn its wheels at a 90-degree angle, giving the car the ability to drive sideways – known as crab-driving. It will also let the car change direction quicker and make parallel parking a lot easier.

Ford Model T 1909

This car might seem like an odd choice to have in this list, but given its age, Henry Ford had some wacky ideas about what to include, or not, in this historic car. Ford designed this car without front brakes, shock absorbers, a water pump and, on the very first model, a driver’s door.

The controls he did include were strange as well. The left pedal was the forward gearshift, the centre pedal reversed the car and the right pedal was the brake. Perhaps the strangest of them all was the accelerator on the steering column.

Karlmann King 2017

While its angular exterior looks to have been inspired by stealth aircraft, the inner workings of this car are more reminiscent of an army tank. Weighing more than an African bush elephant, this car is bulletproof, but the weight means it can only reach a top speed of 87mph.

The car also comes equipped with a flat screen TV, a coffee machine, a PlayStation 4, a fridge, and many more extravagant features. Only 12 were ever made so the chances of seeing one on the road are quite low, but it would definitely be one of the stranger things you see while driving.

Glenfrome Facet 1983

Glenfrome specialised in rebodying Range Rovers for the Middle Eastern market, but this car looks more like a spaceship you’d find in a low-budget 1970s sci-fi movie than a car you’d find driving around in the Middle East.

Made almost completely of fibreglass, the weirdest feature of this car is the hydraulically-controlled top that could be removed and folded into the space under the front-hinged bonnet.

Rezvani Vengeance 2023

Another hi-tech SUV, the Vengeance is equipped more for battle than driving on the road.

Fitted with security features like electrified door handles and wing mirrors capable of emitting pepper-spray, the car seems like something out of a video game. It also has the optional features of bulletproof glass designed to withstand explosions and electromagnetic pulse protection, which will automatically steer the car away from perceived danger.
