Urgent warning to drivers of sub-zero temperatures

The Met Office has issued an urgent weather warning to Brits of impending ice and snow, with temperatures expected to drop to -10°C. 

As per The Highway Code, drivers are urged to drive slowly and change to a high gear when travelling across ice.

“We are in this pattern for seven days at least”, said Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge. 

Yellow weather warning for ice 

Scotland, England and Wales have been issued with a yellow weather warning for ice until Friday, 9 December. 

The next 24 hours are expected to be the worst with motorists urged to take care on the roads. 

Commuters are asked to drive safely during the early hours as the ice will set in overnight. 

Grahame Madge advised: “We could see it continue for a while longer, there’s uncertainty in the evolution and how long it will last.”

“However, the pattern for the next seven days is that it will remain cold and we will see double-digit minus figures overnight in areas that are prone to frosts and areas where there is lying snow.”

• Coolant 
• Electrics 
• Screen 

You should also keep an essentials kit in your car, like a scraper, de-icer, warm clothes, a blanket, a first aid kit, food and drink, a power bank or a charger, and boots with good grip.
